#WorldMeningitisDay is today on October 5th!! For me, meningitis was a life-changing event. But it also changed my perspective on life. No one should go through what I did. I walked onto #collegecampus with a #highrisk of catching meningitis. I attended school without getting the #vaccine, not because I chose not to, but because it wasn’t ever brought to my attention that this was a vaccine that we need while in #college. It’s more common in college due to our social behaviors, and the disease can spread through #bacterial saliva secretion droplets, aka spreading germs. My lasting message would always be, talk to your #doctor about the #vaccines that are available out there today to help prevent the five #vaccinepreventable groups of meningitis. I had #meningitisC, and when I was in college, there was a vaccine available at that time that could’ve helped prevent this. But it is all about perspective. There was a reason this happened to me and the reason was to help save lives. Since I passed the law in 2011(mandatory for college students to get the vaccine), about 350,000 students each year are getting vaccinated. Thats 4.55 million lives I helped protect. ☺️ Happy World Meningitis Day everybody!!!
